Measuring may be easier if you have someone else help you, or perhaps get sized by a professional seamstress. If in doubt, go large! It’s easier to take a dress in than it is to let it out. Sizes can vary significantly from designer to designer, so make sure you use the correct chart. Now, refer to the size chart for the designer of your dress, and select the appropriate size. Keep your legs together and the tape comfortably loose. Measure around the fullest part of your hips. Not too tight – you should be able to put your finger between the tape and your body. Measure around your natural waistline, generally about one inch above your naval. Be sure the measuring tape is comfortable and not too tight. Measure around the fullest part of your bust line, arms to your side. While measuring, wear the type of undergarments you plan to wear with your new dress, or comfortably fitting clothes.
Remember that dress sizes are standardized but bodies are not! It’s important that the dress fit comfortably throughout the middle of your body.
